Senior
This is YOUR year! Whether you go on to a college, university, technical school or a job, the skills you take away from high school will always be useful in the real world. Finish high school with pride in yourself and your accomplishments. Here are a few tips to finish out your year on the right track:
- Choose your classes wisely. DO NOT take the easy road. Continue to challenge yourself with advanced math and science classes.
- Put the finishing touches on your portfolio.
-
Take or retake the ACT/SAT.
ACT: http://www.actstudent.org/index.html
SAT: http://www.collegeboard.com/testing - Continue your visits to colleges and set up interviews (if you didn’t get to visit during the summer or if you want to set up a return trip).
- Attend college career fair events!
- Network! Talk with other students attending colleges of interest to see what advice they have for you.
- Make sure you have all applications required for college admission and financial aid. Make sure you know the deadline of each application – colleges vary! Mark the deadlines on a calendar!
- If the college requires recommendations, have a list of people you would feel comfortable asking. Provide them with the paperwork needed and make sure you have them in your pocket prior to the application deadline. Don’t forget to say, "Thank You!"
- Meet with your high school counselor to look over your transcript to make sure it is accurate.
- Before you submit your college applications – make copies to have at home.
- You may be eligible for multiple scholarships - apply to as many as possible.
-
If you are applying for Federal Aid make sure you know the submission deadline.
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/before010.htm - By May 1st, decide on one college and send in any required deposits to the college that you will attend. Notify the other colleges of your decision.
- Look out for information in the mail from your college regarding orientation, course selection, etc...
- Contact your college regarding financial deadlines for tuition, room and board, meal plans, etc...
- If you’re undecided about college and are going to find a full time job after high school, you’ll need a professional resume. Consider contacting your local Michigan Works Agency to assist you in the development of your resume.
- Lastly, ENJOY your Senior year!
"If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it. Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it."
