Chelan Students

At the University of Washington Health Sciences Open House, Chelan High School students saw some of the latest innovations and techologies in health and medical sciences developed at the UW's Health Sciences Center and its affiliates. Many exhibits were hands-on and interactive, while others featured virtual reality medical presentations, high-tech patient simulators and computerized models of recent research dicoveries. Information was available on educational and career opportunities in the health sciences. This was a very inspiring experience for the students! Volunteering!

Make a difference in your community and your career!

Volunteers are needed in many areas of health care. Whatever your interests or abilities, there is a service organization or hospital that's just right for you. You may prefer working with patients and visitors, or you might choose to help with filing and typing. Some volunteers choose a quiet atmosphere, while others thrive on the hustle and bustle of a busy department.

Volunteering makes you feel great! It's a chance to give to others in need, make new friends, test out careers in health care, give you some practical experience and most of all, it’s a chance to do something worthwhile in your community. Volunteering looks great on your resume or in your portfolio. It shows you care about others.

Contact your local hospital, other healthcare facilities in your community or your school counselor to see how you can make a difference today!

Chelan High School Students!

GET INVOLVED in the following programs:

Med Club!

Med Club was established at Chelan High School in 1994 by a group of students. It is a club for young people who have an interest in health sciences careers. The club goals are leadership, community service, and career awareness. The club collaborates with the various service organizations in the Chelan community to help sponsor health related community events. As an example, every year, the Med Club assists the local Soroptimist Organization with a breast cancer fundraising race. The Med Club recently assisted the Chelan Rotary with a community awareness project to help eradicate Polio (How cool is that!). Each March, the club sponsors an American Red Cross Blood Drive at the high school.

The Med Club partners with the local hospital, Lake Chelan Community Hospital, to put on disaster training drills for the community. In recent years, Med Club has been very popular amongst students, and it has become the largest student organization in the school.

Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU)!

Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) is sponsored by Chelan Douglas Together for Drug Free Youth. The goal of the group is to educate younger students about the hazards of tobacco use. The Chelan group has been very active, providing tobacco presentations to the entire school district and throughout the community. Based on surveys of youth within our school district, the use of tobacco products has decreased significantly since TATU was established at Chelan High School in 1999.

To find out how you can GET INVOLVED with the Med Club or TATU, contact Vicki Taylor, RN, Teacher/School Nurse/Club Advisor, 509-682-4061 or taylorv@chelanschools.org.
